Vilaboa invites the region to enjoy local gastronomy through the Entroido

February 28, 2025

César Poza reminds that Madamas and Galáns will dance non-stop from 10 a.m.: “They can be located via a QR code; any moment is a good time to join in.”

Hats, feathers, costumes, and musical instruments are ready in Vilaboa as the Entroido de Cobres parade prepares to fill streets and neighborhoods with muñeiras, xotas, and traditional dances. Over four intense days, Madamas and Galáns will share an ancestral legacy through their garments and hats, showcasing a unique Carnival that aspires to become the only one in the province of Pontevedra to receive the Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional designation.

Vilaboa’s mayor, César Poza, invites the entire region to come and experience the excitement of the Entroido de Cobres. At any time between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the four days of celebrations, the Entroido parade can be easily located using a QR code displayed on posters, social media, and the official website entroidodecobres.es.

For this reason, César Poza encourages people from Pontevedra, Vigo, and the Morrazo region to take advantage of the local holidays in some municipalities to visit Vilaboa and also enjoy the local gastronomy. Restaurants, taverns, furanchos, cafes, and tapas bars can be found listed on both the municipal and Entroido websites. “The Entroido de Cobres is one of our main tourist assets. There’s no other celebration like it in the province, and we’re fully committed to it. It’s truly worth coming and experiencing.”

The Entroido de Cobres parade, made up of 35 dance couples and a musical group of another 35 participants, will begin on March 1, walking from Riomaior to San Adrián along the N-554 road through Pazos, Pousada, Curra, and Ubeira. After a short lunch break, they’ll continue from Vilar through A Rúa, Muíño, and O Costal, finishing around 7 p.m. at the Riomaior tent, where they will perform and hand over the stage to the groups Claxon and Trío Tic Tac.

Each day, the young dancers of the Entroido de Cobres will dance for around 8 hours, walk about 15 kilometers, and end up with sore feet. “It’s all worth it to keep this piece of intangible heritage alive,” says one Madama, highlighting the unique traits of this celebration—like being the only carnival without masks and preserving a consistent costume design, despite each being customized. “Everyone personalizes theirs with different ribbons, sequins, or bows, but the overall design remains the same.”

Eager to win over more Entroido fans, Madamas and Galáns will give their all to ensure everyone enjoys the celebration. On Sunday, March 2, they will once again dance through the neighborhoods from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with an evening party featuring Trío La Noche in Riomaior. On Monday, March 3, the program repeats with a nighttime performance by Maghachos, Orquestra Fuego, and Dúo Prisma.

On Tuesday, March 4, the Entroido will tour the neighborhoods one last time, inviting everyone to gather in Riomaior. At 1:00 p.m., there will be a vermouth session with live music by Dúo Los Dináculos, along with food stalls serving octopus and barbecued meat. The most anticipated event of the celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. with the Corrida do Galo, hosted as usual by Isi. Throughout the event, different age groups of Madamas and Galáns will perform on stage, and traditional games like Galo no río, Galo na vara, and Corrida do Galo will be held. The day will also feature a performance by Leti da Taberna, returning as the festival’s preacher.

A QR code, accessible through the website entroidodecobres.es, will allow real-time location of the Madamas and Galáns, helping everyone join the festivities whenever and wherever they are.
