On 27 June 2026, Cobres will once again become a meeting point for traditional culture with the celebration of the 8th Entroido Gathering of Vilaboa, an event firmly established within Galicia’s cultural calendar that will bring together traditional carnival groups from across the Iberian Peninsula.
Organised by the Asociación Cultural Cobres, the event offers visitors the opportunity to discover some of the most representative traditional carnival traditions through a day dedicated to cultural exchange, community participation and the promotion of intangible cultural heritage.
The event will be led by the Madamas and Galáns of Entroido de Cobres and the Veterans of Entroido de Cobres, symbols of a tradition that is experiencing a particularly significant year following its recent recognition as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Returning participants
This year’s gathering will once again welcome groups that have previously taken part and have become part of the event’s recent history. These include the Currumiños de Mos, the Xenerais da Ulla, the Fulións and Boteiros of Viana do Bolo, the Caretos of Lazarim, the Madamas and Dancers of Salcedo, and their traditional guest masquerade, the Bear of Salcedo.

Their participation will allow visitors to enjoy once again some of the most representative festive traditions from Galicia and Portugal.
Groups returning after an absence
The 2026 edition will also welcome back groups that have participated in previous editions and are returning after a period away from the event.
This is the case for the Merdeiros of Vigo and the Andruido in La Paré de Piasca from Cantabria, both of which will once again parade through the streets of Cobres and reconnect with the audience.
New additions to the 2026 edition
The 2026 programme also includes several groups taking part in the gathering for the first time.
From Galicia come the Entroido de Aguasantas, the Entroido de Samede, and the Pantallas and Oleiro of Xinzo de Limia, who will be accompanied by the traditional Oleiro character.
The line-up is completed by the Jarramplas of Piornal, one of Extremadura’s most distinctive traditional celebrations, originating in the Jerte Valley and renowned for its unique character within the Iberian festive calendar.
A leading gathering for traditional carnivals
With groups from Galicia, Cantabria, Extremadura and Portugal, the 8th Entroido Gathering of Vilaboa further strengthens its position as one of the leading events dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional carnival culture across the Iberian Peninsula.
